What does it actually feel like to shoot a bow from horseback? Come find out!
On the Bay of Fundy coast of Nova Scotia, Horses & Arrows takes you from your first shots with a traditional horsebow all the way to experiencing archery from the back of a horse.
Your adventure begins alongside the Way of the Horsebow participants with two hours of Dynamic Archery Martial Arts.
You’ll learn instinctive shooting, loading, rhythm, movement and the fundamental techniques that allow horseback archers to shoot accurately and efficiently while their horse is moving beneath them.
Then, while the Way of the Horsebow experience comes to an end, your adventure continues.
It’s time to meet the horses.
Under close instruction, you’ll learn the fundamentals of working with your horse and begin transferring the skills you just developed on the ground into the saddle — culminating in the unforgettable experience of shooting your arrows from horseback.
And you’ll be learning from people who have made this extraordinary martial art a major part of their lives.
Lance Bishop and Sarah Clarke are two of North America’s most accomplished horseback archers. Lance and Sarah are both World Federation of Equestrian Archery (WFEA) International Instructors and competitive athletes. Lance is currently North America’s highest-ranked competitor within the WFEA martial arts grading system and also holds the position of an International Judge for the WFEA. Sarah is the highest-ranked woman in North America within the same system as well as a Licensed Riding Coach with Equestrian Canada (NCCP Certified)
Together they bring high-level archery, horsemanship and years of teaching experience into an adventure created specifically for people trying horseback archery for the first time.
We’ll start at the beginning.
All of this takes place among the fields and shoreline of our home overlooking the Bay of Fundy — a landscape that somehow feels perfectly suited to horses, bows and an ancient martial art.
